Why Does Stoneham Need a CDC?

Until the formation of Stoneham CDC, there was no organization in place whose primary focus was advocating for long-term community development. The Stoneham CDC fills that role.  We maintain a strong commitment to non-partisanship and community engagement as we go about that work.
 
Our community has traditionally relied on local government, the business sector, and issue-specific nonprofit organizations to provide for community needs. Those groups have answered the call to the maximum extent possible, but there were needs that still needed to be addressed.
 
The necessity of a community development corporation became especially clear as the Town was implementing its five-year Strategic Action Plan for Stoneham Square. There were numerous projects recommended in the Plan whose realization is much more possible with the presence of a non-profit community development corporation in the community.
