LocationsThe Stoneham CDC launched a special campaign to purchase and install bike racks for twenty public locations in the Town of Stoneham. Phase 1 of the project is focusing on the two most urgent locations: the Stoneham Public Library (new racks were installed in April 2019) and the Stoneham Common (in proximity to Stoneham Square and and Town Hall.) Phase 2 is to purchase bike racks incrementally for the other identified locations.

Why do we need bike racks?Part of creating a vibrant community street life is improving the infrastructure for pedestrians and
bicycle use. Currently there are very few public bike racks in town – of the existing ones, most are in poor condition. The lack of a safe, convenient place for bike storage is a major deterrent for residents using bicycles in the town center. |
Accessible bike racks would:1) Encourage residents to bike to work.
2) Encourage children and youth to bike to the Stoneham Public Library, Recreation Park and other activities. 3) Bring more foot traffic from residents to Main Street businesses and Stoneham Square. 4) Provide a larger opportunity to bring recreational cyclists using the soon to be opened Tri-Community Greenway to the Stoneham Square area. |
